Yellow Chromate — Tropicalized
Electrolytic zinc plus an iridescent yellow chemical conversion that combines visual presence, protection and a modern formulation free of the CrVI impact.
TECHNICAL FINISH
Characteristics
The system starts with a uniform zinc electrodeposition. The part is then immersed in a conversion solution that forms an iridescent yellow zinc chromate film, classified as a Type II passivate in ASTM B633.
The Spanish name “bicromatizado” still carries the memory of the old dichromate solutions based on hexavalent chromium. Today’s industry uses thick-layer trivalent chromium formulations with organic or inorganic sealers that reproduce the colour, outperform the original technically and reduce environmental impact.

DID YOU KNOW?
The finish took its name from a climate condition.
During the Second World War, radios, radars, engines and hardware designed for temperate climates failed quickly under the extreme humidity, heat and salinity of the Asian jungles, the Philippines, tropical islands and North Africa.
The United States and United Kingdom armed forces drove climate protection standards known as Tropicalization or Tropical Testing. From the 1950s, American catalogues calling for finishes “for tropical conditions” popularised the shorthand tropicalized finish in Mexico, Colombia, the Caribbean and the rest of Latin America.
